Update 22 August

The good news is, Janet is healing well after surgery. She is alert and not groggy like that last time. She will be walking laps today as soon as they take the tubes out.

The bad news is that there is new cancer and they were not able to do the takedown or bowel repair.

We are sorry that some of you are hearing this first via the Blog and not by phone or personal email, but we are kind of shocked and also busier than usual. We will be in touch as we get our ducks in a row. (Does that last sentence make any sense to our many friends who’s English is their 3 or 4th language?)

The goal now is to recover from this surgery and then begin an “alternative therapy”. They are doing tests on the tumor samples to see which chemotherapies would work best if we want to go that route. We are keeping all options open, but are leaning toward alternative.

That is all for now. Prayers, well wishes, positive visualization, etc, are especially appreciated.

Dave & Janet

PS

We have just gotten a request for where to mail a card. Our Snohomish address is best. For those who do not have it, just email us at our gmail address or post a comment here with your email address. Please no flowers, gifts, or flamingos for the front yard (attempt at humor) or visitors at the hospital. Janet is in a ward that is VERY restricted, since it is also used for many bone marrow transplant patients. A sniffle for you, that you may not even know that you have yet, may be death for them. I (Dave) also need to be VERY careful to not catch anything or I cannot come back. We are about to go for the 1st walk, so bye.

  1. Oh no! We were not expecting to hear this and just hate it so much. You will continue to be in our prayers. I would love to send Janet a card but not sure where to send it. If you give me an address, that would be great. Please keep your positive thoughts up. No need in looking at it any other way. Hugs to you two.

  2. Dave and Janet, Our love and prayers are certainly with you. We will have Jeff and Emily here tonight for dinner about 6:00; if you can call or give us a way to call you, I know they would like to talk to both of you and verbally pass along their best wishes ad prayers. Please let us know if and when we can visit. Janet, keep u those laps, do you have a pedometer? We know you will recover from this. If anyone can do it you can. We all love you. Gene, Carol, Jill, Matt, Jeff, Emily and Amy Erken

  3. I am shocked too, and haven’t gotten the words to respond. Keep up the good work at finding a solution for this very vexing problem. Janet , you and Dave are my inspiration in how to handle life’s mountain climbs. My thoughts and good wishes are with you on this walk and search for the cure. Love for all you do, Nancy and Steve

  4. Just figured out that I can post a comment! We are thinking about you out here in Minnesota. We feel for you as we are also away from our boat. :( There is a saying, ‘never leave the boat’ and I can tell you that the more I deal with people in a retail setting the more I kick myself for leaving the boat!

BTW, We are thinking good positive healing thoughts for you and sending healing energy/light your way all the time.

peace and smooches from Janell and Frank

  5. Bummer! But there is no one better at deflecting curve balls better than Janet or Dave. We’ll all get through this together. Know we’re all rooting for you with love, patience, and assurance that this too will pass. Hugs and visions of a strong, healthy Janet running along the beach, Lindi & Patrick

  6. Janet – you are protected, cherished and deeply loved. Your beautiful smile brings joy to all of us! Lily sends love to you both, and says to think of her – cause she’s the center of the Universe! Glenna & Lily

  7. DAVID n JANET,

Very sorry to hear the news. Prayers and thoughts about healing and comfort. You’re two of the nicest people, and being around y’all recently inspires me to be less Heath-like, and more Christ-like. :-)
All my best to you, and hope to see you again soon. ~ Chuck Heath

  8. Janet, am wishing you the very best. So sorry to learn of all your troubles. Thought by now you would be on your way, back to sea. Please know that my prayers are with you and Dave. I don’t have your gmail nor your home address, so if you could send it, I would appreciate it…….Linda
